The name “Peleset” was inspired by the history of Ancient Egypt. In the year 11 BC, the Egyptian Army were attacked by people coming from the sea. They called them, the Sea People, in Hieroglyphic
it is pronounced as “peleset.”
The Peleset were settled in the South East part of the Mediterranean Sea (indicated by the blue arrow in the map). The region currently begins from the coast of Gaza to Jerusalem. At the end of Ramses II dynasty, the rules had changed. The peleset were able to coopearate with the Egyptian army to protect Egypt from the coastal land invaders coming from the north east .
This famous scene from the north wall of Medinet Habu is often used to illustrate the Egyptian campaign against the Sea Peoples (The Peleset ). It has come to be known as the Battle of the Delta.
